Leather has a surprising ability to evoke nostalgia. Perhaps because of the many senses it engages, or perhaps because we associate it with old and heirloom items. When the motif is also evocative of nostalgic themes, the resulting leatherwork is often powerfully attractive. As a science fiction fan, the opportunities for leatherwork abound, but for this project I wanted to pay homage to the earliest science fiction film, Georges Méliès’s Le Voyage dans la Lune (translation, A Trip to the Moon).
