4 Disturbance of Normal Operating Conditions and Other Problems

4.1  INTRODUCTION

The normal operation of a power system may be disturbed or disrupted owing to a system fault when abnormally high currents flow through an abnormal path as a result of the partial or complete failure of the insulation at one or more points of the system. The complete failure of insulation is called a “short circuit” or “fault.”
