5Gaining a Healthy Perspective on Money

Let's begin with the simple word money. We all need it, we all have it, some more than others, but what does it represent to us? What comes to your mind when you hear the word money?

I did my own little experiment through a simple Facebook survey and received lots and lots of responses. Some of the favorites where quite humorous!

Money as a term of endearment: Does anyone remember Vince Vaughn in the movie Swingers saying, “You are sooooo money and you don't even know it”?

Money in musical lyrics: Pink Floyd, Abba, Cardi B, and The O'Jays. Can you hear the songs in your head?

The lyrics below span a few different generations, but the context is the same. We need money; we never have enough money; the love and desire for money can tempt one to do bad things. I couldn't include Cardi B's lyrics here (this is a family book), but trust me when I say her sentiments are very similar.

Money

Pink Floyd

Money, get away

Get a good job with good pay and you're okay

Money, it's a gas

Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash

New car, caviar, four-star daydream

Think I'll buy me a football team

Money, Money, Money

ABBA

Money, money, money

Must be funny

In the rich man's world

Money, money, money

Always sunny

In the rich man's world

Aha, aha

All the things I could do

If I had a little money

It's a rich man's world

It's a rich man's world

For the Love of Money
