Appendix A. Setup, Signup, and Accessories

How you set up your Xoom varies according to whether you’ve got a Wi-Fi-only Xoom, or one that also includes 3G or 4G capabilities. If you’ve bought your 3G- or 4G-enabled Xoom at a Verizon or other service provider store, then the sales folks walked you through the process of activating your Xoom and signing up for a plan. If you bought your Xoom over the Web or at a retail store, then you might not have gone through the setup process for getting your 3G or 4G connection. So contact Verizon or another provider for getting the Xoom set up to get a 3G or 4G connection.

If you’ve got a Wi-Fi-only Xoom, then setup is much easier. When you turn on your Xoom and walk through its initial screens, it asks you for the email address and login information for your primary Gmail or Google account. (And if you don’t have one yet, then it prompts you to set one up.)

If you have a 3G- or 4G-enabled Xoom, you want to get a data plan for giving the Xoom everywhere-access to the Internet and email. Check with Verizon or another provider for rates.

Accessories

You can buy plenty of accessories to get more out of your Xoom; for example to protect its case or screen, connect it to a car charger, and more. Here’s some of what’s available:

  • Cases. Cases protect the Xoom against damage—when you drop it, for example. They also can hold your Xoom at an angled position facing you for when you want to watch a movie, for example, or videochat.
