Chapter 7. Facebook, Twitter, and Other Social Apps
Your Xoom has everything you need to keep in touch with friends, family, and others throughout the world via social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter. It not only connects to the Internet, but it also has GPS so you can let folks know where you are (if you wish), a big beautiful screen where you can read your updates, and a camera or two so you can share photos and videos. This chapter shows you how to run your Xoom like the mean, lean, social networking machine it is.
How Do I Get Social?
You Xoom doesn’t have social networking apps built right into it, because the standard version of Android 3.0 Honeycomb doesn’t include them. So you have to download social networking apps from the Android Market.
When you read descriptions of social networking apps in the Android Market, you may notice that they refer to “phone” rather than tablet. Don’t worry—the same app that works on a phone works on your Xoom. If you see more than one app from a social networking service in the Market, read the descriptions for both of them, in case one was written for a tablet.
Tip
Motorola may decide to put social networking apps on the Xoom at some point. So check the App Menu before downloading new versions.
Using Facebook
To use Facebook, download and install the Facebook app. (For details about how to find and install apps, see Downloading and Installing Apps.) Make sure it’s the official app, with Facebook listed as the author on the description ...
