Setting Up Email

As you know by now, two email apps are available from your Xoom. You just learned how to use the Gmail app. In this section, you learn how to use the Email app.

When you set up the Gmail app for multiple email accounts, you used the Gmail website and worked through a specific (and somewhat lengthy) import process. When you're ready to set up the Email app with multiple email accounts, you configure those accounts the same way you've likely done in the past. You work through a wizard to input your email address, password, server names, and security settings from inside the app, not from a web page. Then, you'll thoroughly test the accounts you configured to guarantee they're functioning properly.

ADD THE EMAIL APP TO THE HOME SCREEN The Email app is cool. With it you can get a quick glance of your new email or only email from a specific account. You can also view only email you've starred. To add the Email app to the Home screen, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the + sign on any Home screen.
  2. Tap App shortcuts.
  3. Tap Email.
  4. Tap the Home button.

CONFIGURING WEB-BASED EMAIL ACCOUNTS

The Email app is capable of configuring some email accounts automatically, as long as you provide your username and password. Gmail is one of them. Although you don't need to know all the accounts and account types that can be automatically configured (they're all web-based), you need to know that sometimes the process can be easy, and sometimes it can be a bit more challenging.
