Chapter 17Putting It All Together
When you start with an attitude of serving others instead of looking for what you can get out of the encounter, amazing things can and will happen, as illustrated by the following story about one of my dearest friends—Sister Camille Kliebhan of the order of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi.
Sister Camille Kliebhan has served in a number of high-profile administrative and academic positions at Cardinal Stritch University near my hometown of Fox Point. I'm privileged to call her a close friend.
Sister Camille has been at Cardinal Stritch in one capacity or another nearly 60 years. She was a trailblazer of sorts, becoming one of the first three women to be admitted to the downtown Rotary Club in 1987. She must have made a great impression because a few years later she was asked to become the first female president of the local Rotary Club.
Several notable things happened between 1974 and 1991 when Sister Camille was president of Cardinal Stritch. She presided over a 400 percent increase in student enrollment and oversaw the development of new programs in nursing, business management, educational leadership, and public communication.
In the early 80s, Cardinal Stritch developed a Reading Clinic, which was a social outreach program centered on the promotion of reading instruction, and it just so happened that the Second Lady of the United States—Barbara ...
