Chapter 19. Scribus: Free Desktop Publishing
Scribus is a free, open source, desktop publishing program, or DTP. You may be familiar with other DTP software such as QuarkXpress or FrameMaker. Using Scribus, you can create advertising flyers, newsletters, books, magazines, brochures, and anything else you can envision on paper. Scribus also produces top-notch PDF documents. Although programs such as OpenOffice.org Writer allow you to create great-looking documents, they aren’t quite up to the requirements of a professional-level publication. That kind of precise control over the various elements that make up the page (or book, etc.) are beyond the scope of most word processors. Some things are just too difficult to do with a word processor.
