The corporate web site is a mainstay of the modern business. The costs of hosting a domain have dropped, and most businesses provide, at the very least, the equivalent of a full-page or multipage ad for the world to see. It's just part of the cost of doing business, and for many small companies, it is a cost they can easily afford. So why would you want to run your own web server?

Web sites can be far more complex than a one-page ad, however, and having control over your own server (as opposed to remote hosting) can offer you some interesting possibilities beyond just advertising.
