In this chapter, an overview of the MPEG-4 Visual SNHC tools was presented. SNHC work began in 1994 in the context of the MPEG-4 project, as a new type of activity in MPEG. MPEG-4 SNHC combines graphics, animation, compression, and streaming capabilities in a framework that allows for integration with (natural) audio and video.
