PE-CE Connectivity: OSPF
The use of OSPF for PE-CE connectivity was extensively covered in Volume 1 of this publication. However, various enhancements have been made since Volume 1 was first published that increase the viability of deploying this particular routing protocol. Therefore, it is useful to provide a quick review of how OSPF is used in this environment and then describe the enhancements that have been applied to the architecture.
Before diving into the details of these enhancements, it is perhaps helpful to review why OSPF might be chosen as the routing protocol on the PE-CE link.
