Label Distribution Protocols on PE-CE Links

The previous sections have shown how routes are exchanged directly between VPN sites and also with the MPLS VPN backbone. Having distributed all of the routing information, you might think that connectivity is achieved between the customer sites, but you have already seen that this is not the case. Example 6-7 shows that ping tests result in no reachability between the VPN endpoints (in this case the InterCom-GamesNet router and a host on the SoccerOnline 216.29.24.0/24 subnet).

Example 6-7. Connectivity Failure Between C Routers
InterCom-GamesNet# ping 216.29.24.1 Type escape sequence to abort. Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 216.29.24.1, timeout is 2 seconds: ..... Success rate is 0 percent (0/5) ...
