Contrary to MPLS, which is simple to configure and troubleshoot, MPLS VPN technology encompasses a number of underlying concepts and technologies, ranging from various routing protocols (such as Routing Information Protocol [RIP], Open Shortest Path First [OSPF], and Border Gateway Protocol [BGP]) to complex routing designs, including controlled two-way redistribution between routing protocols, usually controlled with access-lists or route-maps.
