2: Radar principles: ranging and Doppler
Abstract
This chapter recalls the key principles of classical surveillance radars. Beside the introduction of basic concepts such as ranging, resolution, and Doppler we address also the concept of range chirp compression, ambiguity, we discuss also radars operating in different modalities, such as continuous or interrupted (pulsed radar) and stepped frequency.
