Two-Dimensional Filter Design

This chapter discusses the design of spatial and other 2-D digital filters. We will introduce both finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR) filter design. In the FIR case, we first present window function design of rectangular support filters. We then briefly present a 1-D to 2-D transformation method due to McClellan and a method based on successive projections onto convex sets of frequency domain specifications. In the IIR case, we look at computer-aided design methods that guarantee BIBO stability and also offer approximation for both magnitude and phase.
