Abstract
With policy now lagging behind technology in the resolution of issues facing smallholder farmers in the tropics, the time has come to recognize the concepts of multifunctional agriculture—ones that meet many of the calls for more sustainable approaches to farming that address the key environmental, social and economic constraints to production and poverty.
