Almost everyone on the planet, it seems, has been touched in some way by advances in information technology and the proliferation of the Internet. Recently, multimedia information sources have become increasingly popular. Nevertheless, the sheer volume of raw natural language text keeps increasing, and this text is being generated in all the major languages on Earth. For example, the English Wikipedia reports that 101 language-specific Wikipedias exist with at least 10,000 articles each.
