Foundation of 3D printing and CAD file formats used in the industry
Abstract
In this chapter, we will first give a brief overview of the 3D printing process for heterogeneous objects (HEOs) in Section 2.1. HEOs are made of multimaterials, and a variety of digital models will be used when using 3D printing technology to build entities, including geometric models, material models, slicing models, and printing models. The 3D model files designed by different CAD software have different formats. In Section 2.2, we give some details about these formats and how data can be exchanged between different formats.
