To many, the term ‘multimedia PC is a PC with a SoundBlaster card, a CD-ROM and powerful external speakers that allow multimedia CD-ROMs to be played. Whilst this is undoubtedly a multimedia PC, it is only half the story.
There has already been an upsurge in the marketplace for external modems to add to such PCs to provide a link to the Internet and to allow the user to ‘surf the net’. Cards are already available that allow broadcast TV to be played back via a PC screen and thus allow the audio and video to be captured and stored for future use.
