The transmission medium that still dominates houses and offices is the twisted pair. In the past, local area networks (LAN) were made of coaxial cables, which were also used as a transmission medium for medium- and long-range analog communications. Although, its use in LAN was replaced by the twisted pair, the development of the cable television made the coaxial cable reused.
