Introduction

The idea for this book emerged from a course that I helped create in 2003 and have been teaching ever since. Digital Media Convergence, or DMC as the students like to call it, is a rapid-fire survey course that introduces students to foundational concepts and skills used across a wide range of multimedia technologies and design and production workflows. In DMC, students learn the basics of visual theory, graphic design, digital photography, sound and video recording and editing, and Web design—all in a one-semester course.
