The term biometric comes from the ancient Greek βιoς (bios: life) and µετρoν (metron: to measure, to count). Both concepts indicate that there is something related to life (the human nature) that can be measured or counted. Biometry is the science that tries to understand how to measure characteristics which can be used to distinguish individuals.
