In this chapter we introduce the basics of assessing the statistical significance of any quantitative results that your empirical analyses might have produced. This is an essential part of empirical research that has been neglected far too long in the majority of multimodal research. If you come from a discipline where it is already second nature to apply statistical tests for everything you do, or you know how this works for some other reason, then you can safely skip this chapter.
