Organisation of this part of the book

The chapters in this part of the book present particular kinds of artefacts and performances raising challenges for multimodal analyses. They are also among the kinds of artefacts and performances for which we are beginning to see a growing number of analyses. In general, we organise these so as to work gradually from less to more complex media or canvases, although occasionally it will be advantageous to adopt a more general perspective and focus in on variations within that.
