3.5. Reactive Hazards

Reactive hazards are of considerable interests to process industries owing to their potential of causing substantial damage. The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Identification Board has defined reactive chemical incidents as: A sudden event involving an uncontrolled chemical reaction with significant increases in temperature, pressure or gas evolution that has the potential to, or has caused serious harm to people, property or the environment (Murphy and Holmstrom, 2004).
