Abstract
In grapheme-color synesthesia, synesthetes reliably and automatically experience specific colors when viewing black-and-white graphemes. In this chapter, we review the impact of synesthesia on memory. Over 50 years of research has demonstrated that synesthetes have better long-term memory than nonsynesthetes. However, little is known about how synesthesia impacts earlier stages of memory.
