In 1985, I received a phone call from director Robert Cohen (author of the best-selling text, Acting One, among many others), asking me if I would like to compose a sound score for his production of King Lear at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival the following summer. Even in 1985 Robert had established a name for himself, so when one of the more prominent directors and authors in the American Theatre called, I gladly accepted, knowing that it was an invitation I did not want to screw up.
