2.1 WHO’S WHO?

Music is perhaps the most universal of the arts—it is the most performed; it is listened to, commented on, loved, hated the world over. Reflecting this universality, all of those involved in the production of a film often become involved in one way or another with the music. In this chapter I describe a wide range of production roles and their typical influences, functions, and responsibilities in relation to the music. Keep in mind, however, that the boundaries of decision-making power regarding music can at times be gray and unclear.
