3.1. Reviewing the Core SAP Technology Layer
Once synonymous only with R/3, SAP now equates to a plethora of products both for the large enterprise and smaller businesses. In this section, we will look at the underlying SAP software technology on which most of these SAP products (often referred to as components) reside: the SAP Basis layer and its more comprehensive successor, the SAP Web Application Server (Web AS) platform. The goal in this section is simply to educate any readers not already familiar with SAP's core products.
