Back in the SAP labs at HP, there are plenty of ways to generate loads useful for stress testing. Much of the type of activity that drives this testing, as you would expect, tends to be hardware-specific or SAP benchmark-specific. This testing is certainly useful to anyone in a broad-brush kind of way, but not of much use to companies that seek to mitigate risk associated with a proposed SAP functional upgrade or other application-layer change unique to their Production systems. Instead, a method of testing that reflects core business activities—like the business processes impacted by a proposed functional change to R/3 SD—is in order.
