Relocating Data Directory Contents
The preceding section discusses the data directory structure in its default configuration. All databases and status files are contained within it. However, you have some latitude in determining the placement of the data directory's contents. This section discusses why you might want to move parts of the data directory (or even the directory itself), what can be moved, and how you go about making these changes.
MySQL allows you to relocate the data directory or elements within it. There are several reasons why you might want to do this:
