Scheduling Preventive Maintenance

You should consider setting up a schedule of preventive maintenance to help detect problems automatically so that you can take steps to correct them:

1. Perform regular database backups and enable update logging. I've mentioned this before, right?

2. Arrange for periodic table checking on a regular basis. By checking your tables, you'll reduce the chance of having to use your backups. This is most easily accomplished by using a cron job, typically invoked from the crontab file of the account used to run the server. For example, if you run the server as the mysqladm user, then you can set up periodic check from the crontab file for mysqladm.
