Nanotechnology has been hailed as the next industrial revolution, and the current convergence of tools, materials, and know-how suggest a future of technological advances that merit such a superlative. Without question the last 100 years have shown marked increases in wealth and well-being around the world. Such dramatic improvement in the human condition can be largely attributed to the benefits of industrialization allowing a convergence of advancements in mechanization, transportation, materials processing, and, of course, medicine.
