Introduction

This chapter deals with the transmission of high-quality audio by broadcasters prior to, or “upstream” of, actual broadcast—in other words, any point-to-point transmission of audio signals involved in the production of broadcast content. This chapter does not cover specialized, licensed radio frequency (RF) transmission systems owned and operated by broadcasters for local remote backhaul (Remote Pickups [RPUs]), or studio to transmission-site links (STLs), that are covered in Chapter 6.4.
