Recognition of Discursive Verbal Politeness

Abstract: The paper describes a pilot study on the exploration of discursive verbal politeness in the public sphere. The purpose of this paper is to create a Romanian Gold Corpus, starting from the texts signed by public actors (journalists and politicians). A corpus of online articles is collected, in which discursive politeness is annotated on Verbal Phrases. Discursive politeness considers both dimensions of politeness, positive and negative. The study is meant to create a tool for automatic recognition of verbal politeness for any kind of public text.
