1 Using a #12 round brush and burnt sienna, make a slightly crooked trunk with thick branches that end in “V” shapes. You can add more paint in the next step; this is just to lay down some color.

2 With sepia-colored paint, tap the brush into the wet wash, including on the outer edges of trunk, as well as the spots where two branches come together.
