Duties of the Effective Project Sponsor

The project sponsor champions the project from a business perspective and helps remove obstacles that might impede its overall success.

Every project should have a sponsor. Project sponsors typically are members of senior management who exert a respectable level of influence and authority and serve as proponents of projects. Project sponsors are sometimes called product sponsor, project director, account manager, or business unit manager.
