Introduction

Why was this book written? To tell the truth, I don’t think I had much choice in this matter. This book is a minor revision and extension of my second IL book, Expert .NET IL Assembler, which saw the light of day in 2006, soon after version 2.0 of .NET had been released. The second book is a major revision and extension of my first IL book, Inside Microsoft .NET IL Assembler, which hit the shelves in early 2002, about a month after the release of version 1.0 of the .NET common language infrastructure (CLI).
