Sometimes, limitations imposed by the physical location of a workstation preclude a wired network attachment. Other times, owing to the efficiencies afforded by unfettered mobility, it makes more sense to equip a workstation with a wireless adapter.

Many newer laptop computers come with built-in wireless network interface cards (NICs), but those that do not are easily modified for wireless network attachment. Without much additional effort, you can add wireless NICs to newer desktop and tower systems as well.
