alliance:

an enduring and formalized collaborative relationship between two firms that involves significant exchange of information and resources. Alliances include strategic alliances and joint ventures as well as any enduring buyer–supplier, joint manufacturing, R&D, or licensing agreements between firms.

alliance network:

the system of alliances that interconnects all firms within an industry.

alliance partners:

two firms connected through a collaborative alliance relationship.

alliance portfolio:

a collective term referring to a firm's “thick-line” relationship with its group of alliance partners.
