Chapter 24. Routing Protocols, Part I
The purpose of this chapter is to provide a summary of IP, and where noted, IPX, routing protocols.
The routing protocols that are discussed in this chapter include the following:
Routing Information Protocol (RIP) and RIPv2 (RFC 2453)
Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP)
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
Prior to discussion of these routing protocols, it is recommended that you review some basic routing methodologies and mechanics of routing protocols.
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), specifically BGP version 4, and Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) is discussed in Chapter 25, “Routing Protocols, Part II.”
