Deploying Ethernet Multi-Point Services Using VPLS

Abstract

This chapter focuses on understanding the nuances and the building blocks of Ethernet based Point-Point and Point-to-Multi-Point services namely VPLS. The various control plane options for building Ethernet Pseudowires - such as BGP and LDP are discussed in detail. Further emphasis is provided in helping the reader understand the use cases for integrating the advantages of the BGP control plane across to the LDP domain as well. Hierarchical VPLS which is a mechanism for scaling VPLS is also discussed and appropriate configuration illustrations – for sake reader clarity is also provided.
