Chapter 3. Virtualization of Network Functions
Chapter 1, “The Journey to the Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Era,” and Chapter 2, “Virtualization Concepts,” covered two important areas of NFV fundamentals and virtualization basics. These two topics are key to understand the function and implementation of virtualization and infrastructure blocks in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) framework. These blocks form the foundation for running the virtualized network functions (VNFs). With this foundation properly laid out, this chapter builds on top of it and focuses on VNFs and the considerations involved for the design and deployment of networks using these VNFs.
