Chapter 7. LAN and WAN Protocols
This chapter discusses the major protocols that can be captured, decoded, and reviewed using protocol analysis during a network baselining exercise. The protocol types chosen for review in this chapter include most of the major protocols encompassed within the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) environment in today's enterprise internetwork infrastructure.
When performing a network baseline project, it is necessary to completely investigate and decode the packets received during a protocol analysis session. Each captured packet contains a specific set of protocol layers encapsulated inside the physical frame header.
