5ManufacturersÕ Interfaces
There are many manufacturer interfaces in use throughout the audio industry. For example, TDIF from Tascam and SDIF-2 from Sony are two more that are not covered in great detail in this book (as the technology is out of context, or the concepts are already thoroughly covered within).
Manufacturer interfaces quite often start life as a research project for a commercial organization and so are subject to trademarks, patents, and copyright. A manufacturer may choose to open the work for wider development, or keep the technology proprietary. Those that are opened may request administration by a standards body, and so become adopted, as with IEEE 1394.
