  • Remote access methods

  • How remote desktop applications are used

  • Remote connection protocols

Remote access describes a system of client/server software that connects a remote client to a remote access server. In this chapter, remote access software that connects clients through the Public Switched Telephone Network is highlighted, but the trend in this area of software is toward remote clients connected using Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections over the Internet.
