Modular Approach to Channel Equalization
The mobile cellular channel is generally considered to be Linear and Time-Variant (LTV). However, under limiting conditions, it can even be modeled as Linear and Time-Invariant (LTI). This approach is very convenient as it simplifies many problems associated with mobile cellular communication systems design such as equalizer design (which is in effect a system identification problem). In this conventional approach to modeling the mobile cellular channel as LTI or LTV, we assume that the transmitter subsystem, including channel encoder and modulator, is linear.
