Are You an Enabler?

It should be clear by now that while workaholism affects individuals, it is partly driven by outside forces. Some of these forces—societal ones—are out of the control of any one person or even any one group of people. But other forces—organizational ones—are explicitly in the control of decision-makers. You may resist this and say, as many have said to me when I give talks on this topic, that the responsibility lies with the individual to get themselves together. After all, no one in an organization wants to feel responsible for contributing to one of their workers’ depression or illness.
