John Boersig is the Assistant Secretary, Indigenous Law and Justice Branch in the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, Canberra. Prior to taking this appointment he was a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law, University of Newcastle, New South Wales. His research work there focused on clinical legal education and indigenous legal aid policy; his current research interest is in the relationship between restorative and indigenous justice. Over the past 20 years he has worked closely with many indigenous organisations, particularly Aboriginal Legal Aid services, as a lawyer and in policy development. Until recently he was also a part-time presiding member of the Guardianship Tribunal of New South Wales.
