In the world, there are more than 370 million Indigenous people spread across 70 countries (United Nations, 2015). In Canada, there were 1.4 million people that had an indigenous identity in 2011 (Statistics Canada, 2011) and that number increased to 1.6 million in 2016 (Statistics Canada, 2017). The number of self-employed Indigenous people was 54,255 in 2016 (Statistics Canada, 2016).
